1. RAJA HARISHCHANDRA : FIRST FULL-LENGTH INDIAN FEATURE FILM
Made in 1913 Raja Harishchandra was the first full-length Indian feature
film. Directed and produced by Dadasaheb Phalke, the film was based on
the legend of King Harishchandra. The film was released on 3 May, 1913.
Only one print of the film was made and shown at the Coronation Cinema
Hall.
2. ALAM ARA : FIRST SOUND FILM MADE IN INDIA
Released in 1931 Alam Ara was the first sound film made in India. Directed by Ardeshir Irani, the film is a love story between a prince and a gypsy girl, based on a Parsi play written by Joseph David. The movie and it's music were widely successful.3. KISAN KANYA : INDIA'S FIRST INDIGENOUSLY MADE COLOUR FILM
Released in 1937, Kisan Kanya is India's first indigenously made colour
film. Directed by Moti B. Gidvani and produced by Ardeshir Irani (who
directed India's first talkie film Alam Ara), the film unfolded the poor
plight of a farmer and the consequences he faces for being a peasant.
4. NEECHA NAGAR : FIRST INDIAN FILM TO WIN PALME D'OR AT CANNES
Neecha Nagar is the first Indian film to win Palme d'Or at the first
Cannes Film Festival in 1946. Directed by Chetan Anand, the film starred
Uma Anand, Rafiq Ahmed, Kamini Kaushal, and Zohra Sehgal.
5. MOTHER INDIA : INDIA'S FIRST FILM TO BE NOMINATED FOR BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE CATEGORY
Mother India is India's first submission for Oscars in the best foreign language category. Released in 1957, the film was directed and produced by Mehboob Khan and starred Nargis, Sunil Dutt, Rajendra Kumar, and Raaj Kumar. The film is considered as one of the best films of all times.6. SHOLAY : FIRST FILM IN INDIA TO CELEBRATE SILVER JUBILEE IN MORE THAN 100 THEATERS
If you know almost nothing about Bollywood then also there are chances
that you might know about Sholay. Directed by Ramesh Sippy the films
stars Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, Jaya
Bhaduri and Amjad Khan. Sholay celebrated 60 golden jubilees across
India,and was the first film in India to celebrate a silver jubilee at
over a hundred theaters.
8. GHAJINI : FIRST MOVIE TO ENTER 100 CRORE CLUB IN BOLLYWOOD
Aamir Khan starrer Ghajini is the first movie to enter 100 crore club in Bollywood. Directed by A. R. Murugadoss, the film was inspired by Christopher Nolan's Memento.
